Failing Sports League Bans Kneeling

The NFL, a league which lost my support, money, and viewership two years ago, has officially banned kneeling during the National Anthem. The owners approved the measure in a desperate attempt to regain relevance.

NFL owners have unanimously approved a new national anthem policy that requires players to stand if they are on the field during the performance but gives them the option to remain in the locker room if they prefer, it was announced Wednesday.

The policy subjects teams to a fine if a player or any other team personnel do not show respect for the anthem. That includes any attempt to sit or kneel, as dozens of players have done during the past two seasons to protest racial inequality and police brutality. Those teams also will have the option to fine any team personnel, including players, for the infraction.

I guess last year’s severe ratings drop hit a little too close to home.

For me, this is too little, too late, especially since the NFL gives the players an out by having them stay in the locker room. So instead of kneeling, the networks will make a big deal of who stayed in the locker room. F**k them and everyone who look like them.

  1. I listened to some back and forth on this subject yesterday and the general consensus seems to be that even though they have the option to stay in the locker room or somewhere out of sight, some who take the field will still kneel rather than stand just to tick off people. If I were the owners and one of my employees pulled this stunt, they would be canned! I won’t be watching again this year but I will watch college football. Go Hawkeyes!!

A better way is to not punish a team for a player’s actions, but to penalize the player’s conduct. Take half his paycheck for the first time he kneels or disrespects the ceremony. And another quarter for the second time. Fire the @$$hole the third time with a lifetime ban for playing for any other team.

  3. It does nothing to change individual responsibility. Team owners want to avoid conflict with their prima donna players, so will pay the fines themselves, hoping they lose less money that way. Lesson not learned.

  4. Ronni – The latest I read is the team, not the player will be fined. Because that’s smart.

    Cathy – Endorsed!

TXNick – Exactly. The NFL is dead to me, and has been for a while.

Mike – The Jets already said they will gladly pay the fines. The league despises average Americans, the very people who give them their money.

  5. It’s simple, put it into their contracts that they get a base pay per game with a nice bonus at the end of the season, but only if they play. If they take a knee, they’re benched for the whole game & don’t get paid. Also, the owners should have the b@lls to say any team that does the whole kneeling thing will automatically forfeit the game.
