There are few sporting events I get excited for more than the Tour de France. My entire family knows not to bother me when it’s on, and that’s been the norm for close to twenty years.
Today is the final day of the 106th Tour de France, and fabulous Frenchman Julian Alaphillippe was leading most of the month. He was passed by winner Egan Bernal – who is only 22 years old – on Friday. Damned shame, because Alaphillippe was brilliant.
Julian Alaphilippe (11 June 1992) is a French professional road cyclist and cyclocross racer, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam Deceuninck–Quick-Step. He is the brother of racing cyclist Bryan Alaphilippe.
Alaphilippe won the third stage of the Tour de France on July 8th, simultaneously earning himself the yellow jersey. After losing the jersey on stage six to Giulio Ciccone, he regained it after the eighth stage, where he finished third. He then won stage 13, the individual time trial, in Pau by beating Geraint Thomas by 14s.
Alaphillippe has been amazing during this Tour, although I have been cheering for Peter Sagan, the Slovak sprinter who usually win the green “points” jersey. (He’s won it six times, and this year he’ll win his seventh, a Tour record.)
There are more photos below the fold…
Don’t let Julian’s skinny appearance fool you; the man is more of an athlete than the greatest NFL player.
Alaphilippee’s Instagram account is filled with photos off his relatives, and family is a very big part of his life, as he’s seen with his sister Louise.
The services have ended. You may now go in peace.
