Sunday Services

With the premiere of Rambo XXV opening this weekend, I figured we’d take a look at Sylvester Stallone.

Sylvester Enzio Stallone (July 6, 1946) is an American actor, director, screenwriter, and producer.

Stallone mostly only found gradual work as an extra or side character in films with a sizable budget until he achieved his greatest critical and commercial success as an actor, starting in 1976 with his self-created role as the boxer Rocky Balboa, in the first film of the successful Rocky series (1976-2018). In the films, Rocky is portrayed as an underdog fighter that does battle with numerous brutal opponents, and wins the world heavyweight championship twice.

In 1977, Stallone was nominated for two Academy Awards for Rocky, for Best Original Screenplay and Best Actor. He became the third man in history to receive these two nominations for the same film, after Charlie Chaplin and Orson Welles.

For most born and raised Philadelphians, Stallone’s entire collection revolves around the Rocky films. Rocky’s apartment (1818 E. Tusculum Street) and Adrian’s house (2822 N. Rosehill Street) were in my district when I got out of the academy. It’s an awful neighborhood now, but the homes are still there.

There are more photos below the fold…

I now look just like this photo below. True story.

Sit-ups are a great workout, but to be honest, I’ve never been a fan.

Yes, he looks much older now, but Stallone aged pretty well for the most part.

The services have ended. You may now go in peace.
