Not Really Working Girl

Meet Estelle Lucas, an escort fro Melbourne, Australia. Estelle makes her living as an escort, but like many other businesses, Estelle’s profession is struggling, thanks to the Wuhan Virus.

With social distancing rules in place and strip clubs and brothels closed, sex workers around the world have seen their incomes disappear almost overnight as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. Fearing for their livelihoods, as well as their health, some are offering services online to keep their business going, while others are turning to charities for help.

Estelle Lucas has worked as an escort for the past 10 years in Melbourne, carefully building relationships with her clients. But the spread of Covid-19 and the need for social distancing has prompted a ban on sex work, leaving her worried those efforts will go to waste.

Before the coronavirus outbreak, Estelle says she was earning an above-average income, and had hoped to soon pay off the mortgage on her home in Melbourne’s inner suburbs. Now nearly all her income has been lost. She has tried to adapt by moving her business online, but says that cannot replace physical contact.

She’s not wrong. The fatality rates of the Wuhan Virus was over-exaggerated, and apparently it’s not even a thing anymore. I mean, all these Democrat politicians apparently have zero problem with thousands of rioters ignoring social distancing, right? In the meantime, sex workers, like most people, are getting hit in the pocketbook.

And there is actually no sarcasm here. I doubt Estelle and her fellow escorts are burning down Melbourne these past few days. The world needs to get back to work; and that means everyone.

  1. I guess life, like other things in her line of work, ‘comes’ at you ‘hard.’ But I suggest that she keeps a stiff upper lip, and her nose to the, err, grindstone. The ball’s in her court.

  3. I wonder if any of us could get jobs keeping these poor women in tune for their work. I’d be happy to volunteer. I can certify I’ve been quarantined forever. Or just about.
