NYPD Cops Sickened By Bleach Shakes

Three New York City police officers were rushed to a hospital after they consumed shakes which contained bleach from a local Shake Shack.

The New York Police Department found no criminality after officers became sick Monday night from shakes they got at a Shake Shack in downtown Manhattan, Chief of Detectives Rodney Harrison tweeted early Tuesday. Sources told CBS New York it appears the incident was accidental, possibly the result of cleaning solution that wasn’t properly removed from the shake machine.

Okay, I’m going to go a little Black Helicopter here, but how much bleach does Shake Shack put in their shake machines that would make three grown men so sick? Here’s another question posed by former NYPD officer John Cardillo, “NYPD brass is saying the Shake Shack milkshake machine wasn’t rinsed properly after cleaning and that the three 42 (Precinct) cops weren’t intentionally targeted with the bleach cleaner. If that’s true, why weren’t any other customers affected?”

The officers ordered the shakes in the evening, and the machines are usually cleaned at the end of the night, not when they first open. Also, I’m told you can’t use bleach to sanitize machines like these anymore; many use sanitizer tablets.

Again, I guess it’s possible it was a mistake, but the place was open all day long and the only people who got sick were the cops? That’s pretty thin.

Harrison tweeted that, “After a thorough investigation by the NYPD’s Manhattan South investigators, it has been determined that there was no criminality by Shake Shack’s employees.”

So that “thorough investigation” lasted what, a few hours? The incident happened at about 9pm on Tuesday and was concluded by 4am on Wednesday.

Police – and the police union — initially suspected an employee may have contaminated the shakes with bleach.

I personally think that’s the more reasonable explanation, especially since that entire garbage city hates cops. When I first got on the job, we would take lunch at diners or fact food places, and after a year or so, we narrowed those places down to a few we knew wouldn’t try to make us sick. The list got smaller and smaller as the years went on, and I rarely order anything while I’m on duty.

This sort of thing happens more often than you would believe, and I sincerely hope the NYPD ignores Shake Shack from here on out.

  1. made decision today after seeing legislation that Congress wants to pass to start the DROP on my pension almost a year earlier than was planning…..basically take a cash payout worth 3 years of retirement pay and freeze my percentage at current level.. so im now on the 3 year countdown to retire.

  2. Anyone with half a brain needs to boycott this place. And nothing rings true about the machine not being properly rinsed and 3 police being the only ones who got sick. What a load!

  3. No criminality my ass. If one were to frequent this place and believe it was not criminal, you’d have to be a idiot to take your health in their hands, but the simple fact that even the stupidest of people could see is that this was an intentional act. Cops should make it known they’ll be nowhere near this place. Well, that is unless it’s to respond to the homicide of the owner, manager, or employees.

  4. Dumb question from someone who never had to worry about food places poisoning me…

Why do cops EVER eat anywhere public anymore? Take something to keep you going on your person and keep your meal in your car, your locker, or go home for a meal if that’s possible. Or, find a place you know is 100% pro cop. Just doesn’t seem safe to eat just anywhere. You hear of this shit all the time. I admit, I worked in a municipality where that was possible, so maybe I’m dreaming thinking cops have the ability to do that in today’s world.

  5. Proof – It’s like Hollywood types saying they don’t want conservatives to see their films. why alienate half the country?

INPiker – I was told today there is a ten-month wait to get into the DROP right now. Apparently ineffectual leaders and rampant looting is making officers leave the force.

Ronni – I could possibly buy all the other excuses, but if those were the case, how come only cops got sick. Hopefully the NYPD boycotts this place.

RG – A lot of us don’t. The good thing about the division is we have a fridge, toaster oven and microwave. Most of us don’t trust outside food sources.

TX Nick – Someone brought food to the division during the riots. No one went for it until Diego tested it first.

Veeshir – I’ve been hearing a lot of them have been looking into early retirement. It’s the same way here.
