Raze The Steaks

South Philadelphia is the undisputed home of cheesesteaks. Two of the more popular steak shops – Pat’s and Geno’s – are across the street from each other. Both restaurants have their fair share of customers, even during late-night hours.

Sadly, Pat’s Steaks just had a homicide outside its doors.

Crime tape surrounded the popular Pat’s Steaks in South Philadelphia after an all-out brawl turned deadly overnight. Police say the fight involved roughly seven people and one of them used a trash can lid to hit the victim. The violence unfolded around 2 a.m. Thursday at South 9th Street and East Passyunk Avenue. Police say two groups of people got into an argument and then got physical.

Investigators say one group used a trash can lid to beat a 28-year-old man over the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene. Police later identified the victim as Isidro Cortez from Queens, New York.

“When he collapsed, several individuals with the perpetrator began punching and kicking this individual when he was on the ground,” Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small said.

It always amazes me how regular human beings can turn into animals over an argument. I guarantee the deceased was attacked simply because he was from New York City. For some bizarre reason, Philadelphians hate people from NYC, and it’s not the first time they’ve violently gone after New Yorkers.

This city is becoming more violent every day, and no one – not the mayor, the district attorney, or the police commissioner – gives a damn.

  1. Do Philly dudes go after New Yorkers or just go New Yorker?

Stay safe, my Friend. Your retirement date is 100 times as many days as mine. Come visit me in November… I’ll be down around Cape Coral, diving in the gulf, and waiting out the winter.

  2. TXNick – During football season, they go after those who like opposing teams. Philly used to have a jail inside Veterans Stadium because most Eagles fans are thugs,

Gary – John Kerry had a cheesesteak with Swiss cheese on it. Surprised that twat still won PA in 2004.

  3. When people ask me about these two places in south Philly, I always tell them it’s just a tourist trap for out of town visitors. There are a couple of other steak shops in the city who offer steak sandwiches that are much better then the crap pushed by these two places.

  4. Maybe I am just old fashioned, but it seems this continue to beat and kick somebody after they are down and unconscious is a recent phenomenon. Need to start swift public executions for murder again to save the Republic.

  5. Al – Steve’s Prince of Steaks is awesome, as is Jim’s Steaks on South Street. Always a stop when I was in South Philly.

Ronni – Yep. It was crazy when everything was shut down, buy now people are emboldened.

Ingineer – Agreed. If you want a fair fight, fine; but you don’t continue after you know you won.
