Your Mission, Should You Accept It…

You may remember back in October when Erik and I went to his first college recruitment visit. Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, West Virginia came at Erik very early on, asking him to be a part of their lacrosse team.

The trip was a nice one, the campus is gorgeous, and there are less students at the university than there are at Erik’s high school. Erik enjoyed the trip and seemed to like the campus. The coach was great and the students seemed generally friendly.

As I was driving to work yesterday, Erik sent me a text that he was officially accepted to Alderson Broaddus!

Erik’s still not one hundred percent sure he wants to go to college, but he is very happy his top choice wants him there. I think the trepidation is from Kyle’s less-than-stellar year at Dallas, but I know Erik is certainly smart enough to well at AB.

We’re all very proud of him.

  1. Congrats to him. College isn’t for everyone and everyone isn’t ready for college right out of high school. But it is still highly recommended as one of the best times of many peoples lives.

  2. Great news! College can get him a lot of things in life, but if he doesn’t want to go, he can sure make great money being a plumber, electrician, carpenter, or any other host of trades. I’m sure he’ll make a great choice no matter what he does. Congrats to him and to you and Mrs. Earp.

  3. MelP – Thanks. It’s close enough – only a six=hour drive – so if he gets homesick, we can bring him home for a weekend.

Ingineer – He said he would want to try a trade if he doesn’t do college. At this point, I just hope he has a better experience than Kyle had.

RG – His grades were always great, so academics shouldn’t be a problem. And he’ll be playing lacrosse, if he decided to go.

Mike AKA Proof – The campus is gorgeous, and Philippi is not too far away if he wants to be around civilization.

  4. Congratulations! Did you see the mummies while you were in Philipi? Is that awesome BBQ place still there?

It sounds like AB is a great campus! I didn’t even know there was a college in that town…but then again I DID know there was a great BBQ place there. Priorities n’at.

P.S. It’s only about 2 1/2 – 3 hours from our bunker in OH, so, you know, halfway point if you’re making the trip.

    1. BBQ place is still there from what we were told, but it rained the entire day. The ride home was awful, and the PA Turnpike was a deluge once we past Harrisburg.

Campus is great, people were friendly, and the coach really wants Erik to play lacrosse there.
