Trips To Russia Are Always A Blast

This may surprise you, but during a lovely summer day, the city of Achinsk in Siberia set off a belated Independence Day fireworks display… which caused the evacuation of nearly 6,000 people.

Massive explosions at a Russian military ammunition depot in Siberia injured at least eight people and prompted the evacuation of thousands Monday.

Russia’s Defense Ministry said a fire triggered the explosions at a storage facility for gunpowder charges near the city of Achinsk in Siberia’s Krasnoyarsk region.

Authorities declared a state of emergency in the region and ordered the evacuation of residents of several districts in Achinsk, as well as towns and villages within 12.4 miles of the depot.

In fairness, it’s been fifteen months since the last ammo dump explosion in Russia, but only ten months since the last one in Ukraine. There is video at the link, and it’s rather, um, explosive.

The Entertainment In Ukraine Is Explosive

For the second time in this blog’s three-year history, an ammunition dump exploded in Ukraine. It’s basically like living in Chicago, except att the gunfire occurs in one day.

Explosions and fire have hit an ammunition depot in Ukraine in a possible act of sabotage, leading to the evacuation of thousands of people. Videos on social media showed the blaze and explosions on the horizon near Ichnya, Chernihiv region.

About 12,000 people were moved from the area around the depot, about 109 miles north-east of the capital Kiev. There were no casualties.

Deputy commander of the General Staff, Rodyon Tymoshenko, told a news conference the incident began with four explosions across the depot.

“The intensity of the blasts suggests that it was most probably sabotage,” he said.

Oh, please, it’s not like a despotic Soviet strongman has an axe to grind against Ukraine. Just stop with your conspiracy theories, Comrade Alex Jones!
