Christmas Eve Philadelphia

I’ve always also posted the two greatest Christmas songs of all time on Christmas Eve. Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses and Christmas in Hollis (immortalized in Die Hard – the greatest Christmas movie) by Run-DMC.

The Guardian posted the story about the creation of Christmas Wrapping this year. The composer wanted nothing to do with a Christmas song, and never expected it would amount to anything. Now it’s one of the most popular Christmas songs with those of us who grew up in the 80’s.

Patty Donohue, the lead singer, passed away in 1996 from cancer. She was only forty years old.

And movie fan should remember this song from Die Hard, when Argyle is driving John McClane to Nakatomi Plaza.

Here’s hoping your Christmas Eve and Christmas Day are festive.

The Greatest Christmas Carols

The second post every Christmas Eve features my two favorite Christmas Songs. While they would not be considered a “mainstream” as Silent Night, they always make me feel like Christmas is in the air.

The greatest Christmas Song ever is “Christmas Wrapping” by The Waitresses. Two of our radio stations play Christmas songs this time of year, and Christmas Wrapping gets some play, albeit sparingly.

The song is bittersweet because lead singer Patty Donahue passed away in 1996 of cancer. She was such a terrific talent to go so soon.

The second song is truly a classic; at least for us who grew up in the 80’s. “Christmas in Hollis” by Run-DMC is a perfect rap song, but it’s also a terrific Christmas song.

I really like the Run-DMC/Peanuts mashup.

Oh, and this song really took off when it was featured in the first Die Hard, proving once again, that Die Hard is a Christmas movie.

Enjoy your evening, and have a safe and happy holiday!

It’s Time For The Wrapping

There are two certainties on Christmas Eve here; there will be the link to NORAD Tracks Santa, and the posting of my two all-time favorite Christmas songs.

First up, is Christmas Wrapping, by The Waitresses. It doesn’t get a ton of airtime on the Christmas music stations, but it certainly should. A terribly underrated song, in my opinion.

The other song is below the fold…

A Christmas Musical Interlude

For as long as I can remember, every Christmas Eve here has featured NORAD Tracks Santa and my two favorite Christmas songs. The first one is “Christmas Wrapping” from The Waitresses. It is far and away, without a doubt, the best Christmas song of all time.

And if there is a backup favorite, it would be this. Yes, I know “Christmas in Hollis” by Run DMC is an odd choice, but I’m a product of the 80’s.

I’ll have a few posts tomorrow, but in case you’re busy, have a terrific Christmas.

That’s A Wrap!

For as long as I can remember, every Christmas Eve here has featured NORAD Tracks Santa and my two favorite Christmas songs. The first one is “Christmas Wrapping” by The Waitresses. It is far and away, without a doubt, the best Christmas song of all time.

80’s kids may remember The Waitresses’ other hit, “I Know What Boys Like.”

And if there is a backup favorite, it would be this. Yes, I know “Christmas in Hollis” by Run DMC is an odd choice, but I’m a product of the 80’s.

This fantastic song is also featured in the ultimate Christmas movie, “Die Hard.”

Last-Minute Wrapping

My second traditional Christmas Eve post is a rehash of my favorite Christmas song of all time; namely, Christmas Wrapping by The Waitresses. Yes, I posted this a week or so ago, but the tradition continues, repetitiveness be damned!

My runner-up is an odd choice, but my kids love it as much as the mainstream Christmas songs.
